Hyderabad weather: IMD forecasts rain and thunderstorms as daytime temperatures fall

 weather

Residents experienced welcome relief from the recent spell of heat on Saturday as the Hyderabad weather turned noticeably cooler under persistent overcast skies. Although widespread rainfall has yet to occur, the city recorded a significant drop in daytime temperatures, with cloud cover limiting daytime heating across several areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover near 22 degrees Celsius. The latest Hyderabad weather update marks a considerable decline from the previous two days, when daytime temperatures ranged between 35°C and 36°C.

The cooler conditions have raised expectations of further monsoon activity as meteorologists forecast additional rainfall over the coming days.

IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds

The IMD Hyderabad forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. While rainfall may not be widespread across the city, isolated showers are expected to provide further respite from the heat.

Meteorologists explain that extensive cloud cover associated with the advancing southwest monsoon often suppresses daytime temperatures even before heavy rainfall begins. Increased moisture in the atmosphere, combined with unstable weather conditions, also creates favourable conditions for thunderstorm development during the afternoon and evening hours.

Residents have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorms, especially when strong winds and lightning are forecast.

Yellow and orange alerts issued across Telangana

Along with the Hyderabad rain forecast, the India Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange weather alerts for several districts across Telangana, warning of locally heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

A yellow alert generally indicates that residents should stay updated on weather conditions and exercise caution, while an orange alert signals a greater likelihood of severe weather and advises authorities and the public to be prepared for potential disruptions.

Weather experts note that districts under orange alerts may experience intense rainfall over short durations, increasing the risk of waterlogging, reduced visibility and temporary traffic disruptions.

Temperature drop signals strengthening monsoon conditions

The noticeable fall in daytime temperatures is consistent with strengthening monsoon conditions across Telangana. Weather experts explain that prolonged cloud cover reduces the amount of solar radiation reaching the surface, leading to lower daytime temperatures even in the absence of widespread rain.

The combination of high humidity, moisture-laden winds and developing thunderclouds suggests that monsoon activity is gradually becoming more active over Hyderabad.

Meteorologists also point out that temperature fluctuations during the monsoon are common and may vary from one part of the city to another depending on cloud cover and localized rainfall.

Residents advised to monitor weather updates

Authorities advise commuters and residents to keep track of the latest Hyderabad weather updates, particularly during periods when thunderstorms are forecast. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution on slippery roads, while people outdoors should avoid taking shelter beneath isolated trees during lightning activity.

The latest Hyderabad weather forecast indicates that cooler conditions are likely to persist if cloud cover and scattered rainfall continue over the next few days. Although widespread rain has not yet arrived, the changing weather pattern suggests that Hyderabad may experience increased monsoon activity as the season progresses.
