Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping India’s employment landscape, and Women AI careers are emerging as one of the biggest success stories, according to the latest Scaler AI report. The study found that women who transitioned into AI-enabled roles recorded an average 145% increase in salary, highlighting how AI skills are creating new career opportunities across engineering, leadership, marketing, human resources, academia, and support functions.

The India AI workforce study, which surveyed 11,444 professionals, suggests that artificial intelligence is no longer confined to software development. Instead, AI is becoming a workplace capability that is opening doors for professionals from diverse educational and career backgrounds. The findings also indicate that learners from Tier-II cities are increasingly competing for high-paying technology jobs alongside candidates from traditional metropolitan technology hubs.

AI salary growth extends beyond software engineering

The report indicates that AI salary growth is no longer limited to software developers. Women are increasingly finding opportunities across multiple industries as organizations adopt artificial intelligence for business operations, analytics, customer engagement, and decision-making.

According to the findings, women now account for 41% of AI learners in human resources, 37% in academia, 33% in marketing, 31% in technical support, 31% among interns and students, and 24% in data analytics. These numbers demonstrate that Women AI careers are expanding well beyond traditional engineering positions and into business-focused functions where AI skills are becoming increasingly valuable.

The report also highlights that AI education is helping women enter technology careers that were previously considered less accessible, while improving long-term career prospects through specialized technical knowledge.

QA engineer salary records the biggest jump

Among all professions analyzed, QA engineer salary growth stood out as the strongest performer for women.

Female Quality Assurance engineers reported an average salary increase of 574%, the highest among all AI-enabled roles covered in the study. Data engineering leadership followed with a 285% increase, while backend engineering recorded a 194% jump. Data engineering delivered 161% salary growth, data science reached 160%, and full-stack engineering posted a 153% increase.

Engineering leadership roles produced a 145% increase, while machine learning engineering and technical support specialist positions each generated 120% salary improvements after AI-focused career transitions.

The report also compared salary growth between women and men, finding that women experienced stronger percentage increases across several roles, including Quality Assurance engineering, data engineering leadership, backend engineering, full-stack engineering, engineering leadership, machine learning engineering, and technical support.

India AI workforce expands beyond metro cities

Another notable trend identified in the India AI workforce report is the growing contribution from Tier-II cities. One in five AI learners now comes from cities such as Lucknow, Patna, Jaipur, Indore, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu, and Nagpur, reflecting how online education and AI-focused learning platforms are reducing geographical barriers.

This widening talent pool suggests that companies recruiting AI professionals are increasingly evaluating candidates based on skills rather than location alone. As remote and hybrid work models continue to evolve, professionals from smaller cities are finding greater access to competitive technology positions.

Industry observers have noted that this trend aligns with India’s broader digital transformation, where AI adoption is spreading across sectors including finance, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, education, and customer service. As businesses continue investing in automation and data-driven decision-making, demand for AI-literate professionals is expected to remain strong.
