More than 22 lakh medical aspirants are set to appear for the NEET UG Re-exam on Sunday, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urging candidates to remain calm, confident and free from anxiety. His appeal comes as authorities implement extensive security arrangements across examination centres to ensure the smooth conduct of one of India’s largest and most closely watched entrance examinations.

Ahead of the NEET UG Re-exam, the Education Minister expressed confidence in the National Testing Agency, state governments, district administrations and the education fraternity, stating that all stakeholders had worked together to conduct the examination in a transparent, secure and fair manner. He encouraged students to focus on their preparation rather than external concerns and approach the examination with confidence.

NEET UG Re-exam conducted under heightened security

The NEET UG Re-exam is being held under enhanced security arrangements following increased public attention on the examination process. Police personnel and local authorities have been deployed at examination centres across multiple states to maintain order and ensure candidates can complete the examination without disruption.

Officials have coordinated with district administrations, law enforcement agencies and examination authorities to facilitate smooth entry of candidates, manage crowd movement and strengthen monitoring at test centres. The security measures reflect the government’s emphasis on preserving the credibility of the Medical Entrance Exam while ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.

Dharmendra Pradhan expresses confidence in the National Testing Agency

Addressing students before the examination, Dharmendra Pradhan indicated that he had complete faith in the National Testing Agency, state governments, district administrations, members of the education fraternity and the students themselves. According to the minister, the collective efforts of these institutions are aimed at conducting the NEET Re-examination fairly and efficiently.

His remarks were intended to reassure candidates that comprehensive arrangements had been made to support a transparent examination process. The minister also appealed to students to remain focused on their performance rather than speculation surrounding the examination.

Experts stress preparation over anxiety

Education experts frequently advise candidates appearing for high-stakes competitive examinations to concentrate on time management, question analysis and maintaining composure instead of worrying about external factors. Academic counsellors note that anxiety can affect concentration and decision-making, making mental preparedness almost as important as subject knowledge.

Experts further observe that examinations involving millions of candidates require robust administrative planning, transparent procedures and effective coordination between central and state agencies to maintain public confidence. They believe that consistent communication from authorities plays an important role in reducing uncertainty among students and parents.

As the NEET UG Re-exam progresses across the country, education authorities are expected to closely monitor the conduct of the examination while ensuring that candidates experience a smooth and secure testing environment. The outcome of the examination will be significant for millions of aspiring medical students seeking admission to undergraduate medical programmes across India.

With more than 22 lakh candidates participating, the NEET UG Re-exam remains one of the country’s most important competitive examinations, and the successful conduct of the test will be closely watched by students, parents, educational institutions and policymakers alike.

Delhi High Court Reserves Verdict on Telegram’s Challenge to Temporary India Ban

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by Telegram challenging the Union government’s decision to temporarily suspend the messaging platform’s operations in India until June 22 during the NEET UG re-exam. The case has drawn national attention because it raises significant questions about balancing exam security measures with the digital rights of millions of users.

The Centre defended the temporary restriction by arguing that the platform’s technical architecture could enable users to backdate messages, potentially facilitating the circulation of leaked examination papers. Telegram, however, contended that suspending access for nearly 150 million Indian users over concerns linked to a limited examination process was disproportionate and would adversely affect millions who rely on the platform for legitimate communication.

Delhi High Court Examines Telegram Ban Challenge

The Telegram ban challenge came before the Delhi High Court after the government ordered a temporary suspension of the platform’s services during the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate re-examination. The restriction is scheduled to remain in force until June 22.

During the proceedings, the Union government defended its decision by maintaining that protecting the integrity of one of India’s largest competitive examinations required extraordinary preventive measures. Government counsel argued that the design of the messaging application allows messages to be manipulated by altering timestamps, creating the possibility that leaked question papers could be circulated while appearing to have been shared before the examination.

According to the Centre, such technical capabilities present unique challenges for investigators attempting to determine whether examination materials were illegally distributed, making temporary restrictions necessary to preserve the fairness of the NEET UG re-exam.

Telegram Opposes Temporary India Ban

Representing the company, Telegram challenged the government’s reasoning, arguing that blocking the platform would unfairly affect approximately 150 million users in India who depend on the service for education, business, family communication and professional collaboration.

The company maintained that a nationwide suspension represented a disproportionate response to concerns relating to examination malpractice. It argued that enforcement agencies possess alternative investigative tools that could be used to identify individuals involved in paper leaks without restricting access for the broader public.

Telegram also questioned whether the government’s concerns justified interrupting services for millions of users who had no connection with the alleged misconduct surrounding the examination.

Centre Cites Paper Leak Prevention

The Centre defended the Telegram India ban by stressing that preventing paper leaks is essential for maintaining public confidence in national entrance examinations. Officials argued that digital platforms capable of rapidly disseminating information require close scrutiny whenever credible concerns emerge regarding examination security.

Government lawyers maintained that the temporary restriction was limited in duration and linked solely to the conduct of the NEET UG re-exam, rather than representing a permanent prohibition on the messaging platform.

Legal experts note that the case raises broader constitutional questions regarding proportionality, freedom of communication and the extent of executive authority during exceptional circumstances. Courts have consistently examined whether restrictions imposed in the public interest are narrowly tailored and whether less restrictive alternatives could achieve the same objective.

Technology policy specialists also observe that encrypted messaging platforms increasingly face regulatory scrutiny worldwide as governments seek to combat cybercrime, misinformation and examination fraud while preserving privacy and digital rights. They suggest that the Delhi High Court’s ruling could influence future policy debates involving digital platforms and temporary restrictions during sensitive national events.

Verdict Awaited in Telegram Legal Challenge

With the Delhi High Court reserving its verdict, all parties now await a decision that could shape the legal framework governing temporary restrictions on digital communication platforms during public examinations.

The outcome of the Telegram legal challenge is expected to clarify how courts balance examination integrity with the rights of millions of users. Beyond the immediate dispute, the judgment may establish an important precedent for future cases involving technology platforms, government intervention and public interest considerations.
